Honouring our Friend Harry Who

Honouring our Friend Harry Who

Spring has certainly sprung, when you start driving through the streets and see the blossoms on the trees. But today, as we witness new life, there was the opportunity to honour a life that has passed.

Harry Milton Lear Watt AM – H to many, Harry Who to more  – and for me he was always “George & Harry”. A formidable partnership that stretched 52 years. A traditional ceremony at a very full St Peters Cathedral was filled with tears, laughter and grace.

Harry loved a joke (a fart joke as his nephew proudly shared with us today) but more importantly he loved living life.

I first met George and Harry when I was preparing for my interview into Fashion Design College, some 29 years ago – to become the next YSL! Entering the industry in a different guise a few years later, supplying high end fabrics and silks to the famous George Gross and Harry Who fashion labels, it took me some time to learn that Harry’s caring face, tone and demeanour was often him toying with me, mucking around! Generous, fun and a “lot” of cheek….Harry Milton Lear Watt AM, was indeed one of a kind.

Take this away with you, as I will today….between the date of your birth and that of your death, on your tombstone, there is a dash….what will your DASH mean?

“For that dash represents all the time they spent alive on earth and now only those who loved them know what that little line is worth. For it matters not, how much we own, the cars… the house… the cash. What matters is how we live and love and how we spend our dash.”

Time to live ones life!
